'the bond between' with Rob Szymanek

Picture
'the bond between' - by Rob Szymanek. Score edited by Alice after returning from India.
'the bond between' is a piece for solo violin and 3 loop pedals, which evolved between 2010 and 2013 as a collaboration with the composer, Rob Szymanek.  Created after experimenting with many different violin techniques, the composition is a bond between Western and Indian classical musics.  Loops recording the violin layer up, with the violin playing a series of free melodies over the top.

Following my a trip to India in December 2011, where I studied with Embar Kannan in Chennai, our latest version of 'the bond between' incorporates techniques and phrases from Carnatic violin playing, which we recorded in January 2012.

'the bond between' has been performed in London at LSO St. Luke's, the Forge and in the Duke's Hall at the Royal Academy of Music.

Have a listen below to two different recordings: before and after my Indian violin lessons... do let me know what you think!
